Dear Members of the Northern Kentucky Skating Family,
Spring is almost here...finally! With the change in season we look ahead to getting ready for our Spring Show, the rink closing and the summer program. Another busy spring is just around the corner.
As you probably already know the Spring Show is off and running. As expected, it should be a fantastic show with "Satellite Radio" as its theme. We are thrilled to have Canadian National Pair Skaters, Jessie M. and Ian M., as guest performers. There will be three performances this year on May 13 and 14. Look for more information in this newsletter and be sure to invite all your family and friends.
The rink will be closing for four weeks this year, from Monday, May 22, through Friday, June 16. As a result, a few other things are going to be a little different this year.
First, we have moved up our membership drive. It is now scheduled for May 12 through May 19. It was necessary to do this because of the rink's late re-opening. As previously announced, this is our transition year for the club's fundraising obligation. Since we are moving from paying fundraising at the end of the year to the beginning of the year, two years of fundraising will be due at the same time. If you would like to know how much fundraising you will owe, please e-mail Ken Jones at jones3@fuse.net. Please put "NKSC Fundraising" in the subject line.
Second, we have scheduled the annual Club Picnic for Friday, May 19, at Crescent Springs Community Park. Times and sign-up sheets will be forthcoming. The General Membership Meeting will be held during the picnic, and everyone is encouraged to attend. We will be electing new board members. There are nine board members rotating three-year terms. Every year, three board members are elected. We have changed the nomination process a little this year. Look for more information in this newsletter. Please consider volunteering for the Club either by running for a board position or serving on a committee. We will have committee sign-ups at the membership drive and the picnic. As always if you have any questions about any volunteer positions, please contact any board member. We can't do it without everyone's help.
As always, the board welcomes your input or questions either at a meeting or to one of us directly. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, April 11, at 6:30 pm. It will be held in the Donato's Pizza Group Room located on Dixie Highway in Crestview Hills.
Respectfully,
Clare Richart
President

The 2006-2007 NKSC Membership renewal is approaching soon. Please plan to visit us at our membership drive table Friday, May 12, from 5-7 pm (during the Spring Show dress rehearsal) or Wednesday, May 17, through Friday, May 19, from 2- 6 pm at the NKIC.
New simplified membership forms plus fundraising information will be available. Membership experts will be on hand to assist you. Please remember membership and fundraising must be up-to-date before summer competition forms can be signed.
As mentioned earlier, the NKSC General Membership Meeting will be held on Friday, May 19, at our annual picnic. There are three (3) 3-year terms open for the Board of Directors. Should you have an interest in serving, or wish to nominate someone to serve (with their permission), please complete a NKSC Nomination Request Form. Forms are available under our Club bulletin board and may be turned in to the rink's office, attention Whitney O'Neal, NKSC Secretary, by Friday, May 5.
Candidates must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a member of the NKSC for at least six consecutive months prior to being nominated. Candidates shall be nominated by Full, Associate and/or Honorary Members of the NKSC who are in good standing with the club. The Board of Directors meets once a month for regular business meetings and holds special meetings as needed.
Ballots will be distributed to all eligible voting members at the General Membership Meeting. Eligible voting members are members over the age of sixteen (16) who declare the NKSC as their Home Club. If you are unable to attend the General Membership Meeting and would like to vote, please request an absentee ballot packet from Clare Richart at mainelycwr@aol.com or Whitney O'Neal at whitandtodd@fuse.net.
After Friday, May 5, nominations will only be taken from the floor at the General Membership Meeting and added to the regular ballots.
The final fundraising opportunity being offered for this club year is the Scrip sale, which will run from Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 21. The Scrip order forms and informational sheets are available below the NKSC bulletin board, or you can download them. Just complete your form and attach a check (made payable to NKSC) for the total amount purchased, and turn it in to the rink's office. Your Scrips will be delivered to you the week of April 24.
For your convenience, we are please to offer advance ticket sales for the NKSC annual Spring Show on Saturdays, April 15, April 22 and May 6 from 11 am - 1 pm, as well as May 8-12 (Monday through and including Friday) from 2-5 pm at the front lower lobby of the NKIC. Advance sale ticket prices are $7, with ages three and under free. Tickets are $10 at the door. There is limited seating for this event, so mark your calendars and don't miss out on your opportunity to be a part of the fun and excitement as "Satellite Radio" hits the Northern Kentucky air waves!! Show dates and times are Saturday, May 13, 3:30-5:30 pm and 7-9 pm, and Sunday, May 14, 3:30-5:30 pm. See you there!
The "Satellite Radio" Program Committee is pleased to announce that this year's program will include photos of each soloist and group number. Photographer Thomas Wright will be at the NKIC for photo day on Saturday, May 6, from 9 am to noon. All show participants will receive a photo day schedule once the show order has been determined. Mr. Wright will also be taking on-ice photos during the shows. These professional-quality photos will be available for sale singly or in various group packages at discount prices. Order forms complete with instructions on how to view the pictures will be given to each participating skater's family during photo day and will also be available during the show. Please check the NKSC bulletin board for updates.
In addition, Mr. Wright will be available to take "head shot" photos for any competitive skater who needs updated pictures. Please see the order form for additional information.
The "Satellite Radio" show committee is pleased to announce that Tri-State Productions will record and produce a DVD, for purchase, of the 2006 NKSC Spring Show, "Satellite Radio." They will be using four cameras operated by remote to capture all of the sights and sounds of this exciting event! DVD's will sell for $30 each and pre-orders will be taken at the advance ticket sale table during all advance ticket sale dates and times: Saturdays, April 15, April 22 and May 6 from 11 am - 1 pm, and on Monday, May 8, through Friday, May 12, from 2-5 pm. DVD orders will also be taken during all three show performances at the Tri-State Productions table. So mark your calendars and make sure to get your order in for the "Satellite Radio" DVD!
In the show entry packets, everyone received a Program Ad/Skatergram information letter and form. Skatergrams are new to NKSC but have really been around quite a long time. For those of you unfamiliar with them, they are a quick and easy way to send your own personal message to your favorite skater and your friends! Simply write your special message (remember, two lines, 30 characters per line) and enclose a $5 payment per Skatergram to: NKSC Program Ads c/o the NKIC office. Your message will be displayed in the show program where your skater(s) will see your support. Program ads are also vital to making our show a success; they help us defray our program printings costs, while helping to promote local businesses who may become aware of us for the first time, and may end up being a show patron. So don't delay! Get your Skatergram message and/or program ad in to be included in the new and improved Spring Show program. For your convenience, we have extended the deadline date for all Skatergrams and Program Ads to May 1. Please reproduce your forms as needed or pick up extra forms at the NKIC on the NKSC bulletin board. Questions? Please contact Denise Simoni at dacfs@aol.com. Thank you for your continued support!
